Blue Light Therapy: Supporting Your Sleep & Circadian Health

What is Blue Light Therapy?

Blue light therapy is a safe and natural way to improve sleep, boost energy, and regulate your body’s internal clock, also known as your circadian rhythm. It works by exposing your eyes to a specific spectrum of blue light that helps influence when you feel awake and when you feel sleepy.

In today’s world, many people don’t get enough natural light during the day and are exposed to too much artificial light at night. This can confuse your body clock, leading to sleep problems, daytime fatigue, and even mood changes.

By using blue light therapy at the right time, you can help reset your internal clock, making it easier to wake up in the morning, stay alert during the day, and fall asleep at night.

Blue light therapy is especially useful for:

✔️ People with irregular sleep schedules – including shift workers and frequent travellers

✔️ Those struggling with morning drowsiness – helps you wake up feeling refreshed

✔️ Athletes and students – boosts focus, performance, and energy levels

✔️ People with sleep disorders – helps regulate circadian rhythms for better sleep.

How Does Blue Light Therapy Work?

Blue light is a natural part of daylight and plays a big role in keeping your body’s sleep-wake cycle on track. When your eyes are exposed to blue light, it signals your brain to suppress melatonin production (the hormone that makes you feel sleepy) and increases alertness.

The AYO+ Circadian Light Therapy device delivers blue light directly to your eyes, helping to:

  • Wake you up naturally in the morning – By using the device shortly after waking, you can feel more alert and energized.

  • Improve sleep at night – Regular use helps to encourage melatonin production at the appropriate time to regulate your sleep-wake cycle.

  • Regulate your circadian rhythm – Helps shift your internal clock, making it useful for jet lag, shift work, and sleep disorders.

The key to success with blue light therapy is timing. Your clinician or sleep specialist will guide you on when to use it to get the best results.

What Does Blue Light Therapy Tell Me About My Sleep?

Blue light therapy itself doesn’t record your sleep data, but it helps your doctor understand how light exposure affects your sleep-wake cycle.

Using the AYO+ device, your doctor can:

  • Track how well light therapy is improving your sleep

  • See if timing adjustments are needed for better results

  • Help you understand how your body responds to light exposure.

If you pair the device with the AYO+ companion app, you’ll also receive personalised recommendations for sleep, light exposure, and daily habits that can improve your circadian health.
